This Bay Area Festival is a BFD

I’m really excited about this post because BFD presented by Live 105 was the very first festival I ever attended in 2007. BFD is a Bay Area music festival held at Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View on Saturday, June 4th. I have tried to go every year since, even after moving away from the Bay Area because it’s such great time, the crowd is great, and I’ve never had any issues getting in and out of the venue. Live 105 also does an incredible job each year with their multi-genre lineups on 4 stages including the main stage, Bud Light festival stage, subsonic tent, and local band stage.

BFD always boasts an impressive lineup which includes musical acts from genres that range from rock, to indie, to electronica. Main stage acts this year include The Offspring, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Silversun Pickups. However, the tent where you will find me this year is the Subsonic tent. The Subsonic tent will always have a place in my heart because it is where I last saw my favorite DJ AM perform before he died. I’m really excited about the tent’s lineup this year because some of my favorite producers are playing. Number one on my list is Blaqk Audio, also known as the dark wave side project from AFI member’s Davey Havok and Jade Puget. There’s also Claude vonStroke, San Francisco based label owner of Dirtybird Records. Lastly, there’s newcomer Nghtmre, who is a fellow graduate of Icon Collective and who has a new collab out with Dillon Francis.

Now that you’re hooked on the lineup, let me break down the festival a little bit. Shoreline Amphitheatre is pretty big so be prepared to do some walking. While there are only 4 stages, they are spread out pretty evenly. The main stage is literally an outdoor amphitheatre. Guests can either purchase seat tickets close to the stage or get GA passes and sit anywhere they can on the grass hill looking over the stage. These GA seats are actually my preference. My group always brings blankets to stake out our spot for the day and use it rest and eat or drink in between acts. You also meet tons of new people sitting around you. The Festival stage is down the hill from the ampitheatre. This stage is on a parking lot type area so it gets pretty hot during the day. You will definitely want a hat and sunglasses and a frozen lemonade to tolerate the weather while listening to the bands here. But it’s a big stage with a great outdoor sound system. Lastly, there is the Subsonic Tent close to the Festival Stage. The tent is covered to give a rave/warehouse vibe with mover lights and fog machines. This tent gets packed easily so come early to get a good spot for your favorite artist. Make sure to bring sunscreen because it can get really hot during the daytime and a jacket for nighttime because it can get cold fast! BFD is just a 1 day event so I suggest getting there when it opens and staying till the end. While that seems like a long time, there are so many areas to get food and drinks and just chill on the grass in the main amphitheater area it’s easy to get rest and socialize in between acts. If you live in the Bay Area or close by and can make it, I highly recommend this festival as your traditional summer kickoff! Tickets are still available and here are my musical suggestions for the weekend…
