Prepare For The Uprising

On Friday, SoCal Bassheads everywhere will be in attendance for Uprising 2016 at the Hollywood Palladium. The lineup for this event is stacked with bass music favorites. Now, I’m particularly biased because one of my good friends and dubstep alum from the UK, P0gman, will be playing and I guarantee that you don’t want to miss his set. I was lucky enough to catch up with him and talk but before we get into that, let me first break down the actual event.

So for all you newcomers, Bassrush is one of Insomniac’s sub-brands that is all about bass music. The events have signiture great sound systems and minimized production to emphasize the music. They started off in the 90’s and early 2000’s as strictly drum & bass but over the years have expanded to all facets of bass music. Besides hosting their own events, like Uprising or Basscon, they host stages at all of the major Insomniac festivals. They have also hosted tours for acts such as Skrillex and Excision. If you miss Uprising, you can catch their stage at EDC New York this weekend and EDC Vegas June 17-19th. They will also be hosting a pool party in Vegas for EDC week on June 16th at Rehab at The Hard Rock.

So now that you have some background information on Bassrush, let’s talk about the artists who are playing on Friday. The lineup boasts Twonkteam founder Brillz, dubstep OG’s Rusko and Caspa, along with bass music heavyweights P0gman, Eptic, Friction, and Loudpvck. I was super excited to catch up with P0gman because I wanted to give you all the inside scoop on the event as well as his thoughts on bass music right now!

What do you like about Bassrush events?

P0gman: Bassrush and Insomniac always put on such amazing great shows and productions. It’s an honour to come out and play my first how for the Bassrush guys and at such a prolific venue. The lineup is so stacked too and it’s just set to be an amazing night all round. Got mad respect for Bassrush pushing the bass music scene in such a positive direction and getting such good music out to the masses.

Who are you most excited to play with on the lineup and why?

P0gman: The whole lineup is unreal. The big one for me would have to be Caspa and Rusko as they are one of the main reasons I got into and started producing Dubstep back at the start. Eptic has been a good friend for years both being from Europe so it’s gonna be amazing to link up with him again. The Loudpack guys always bring such amazing energy and its gonna be a pleasure sharing the stage with those guys again. Brillz I’ve never played alongside so I’m super excited to see the Twonk headman himself throw down. And last but not least, Friction who is a DnB legend. The whole night is so diverse and it’s just a pleasure to be a part of it.

Where do you see dubstep and bass music in general going in the future?

P0gman: I can only see it growing. Music in general is up and down constantly so there will be low points for certain genres always but Bass music and Dubstep will ALWAYS have the party vibe and the energy. It’s always evolving which is a positive thing for the scene and music in general. For anyone who wants to say it’s dying just look at where we’ve come in the last 5 years? Onwards and upwards I say!

I know you’re super busy, so what are you currently working on?

P0gman: Currently writing my new EP and working on collabs with Krimer, Trollphace, Gentlemen’s Club, Dack Janiels, and Walter Wilde. We just launched our new platform Wolfgang with my brother Ant and manager Zac. Our aim is to give artists a platform where they don’t have to worry about genre. We know that all artists enjoy producing a wide range of music but have to worry about putting it out under their certain name as it can have negative backlash nowadays! We aim to get people to know that if an artist is releasing on Wolfgang that it’s not gonna be their ‘usual’ sound. Our motto is Anti-Stereotype.

All in all, you won’t want to miss this event. If you are a long-time basshead or just want to hear what the genre is about, this event is perfect for you. I guarantee every artist on the lineup will bring it on Friday and people will be talking about it for days. Tickets are still available and here are my musical suggestions to get ready for the night…
