Upholding the title as The Netherland’s longest standing music festival, Mysteryland was truly the first of its kind when its inaugural event took place in 1993. It wasn’t until over a decade later, however, that the ID&T-assisted event opted for a two-day experience in 2014, and ever since, the franchise has gone on to reign supreme as one of the world’s premier EDM festivals. From its humble beginnings as a homegrown event to an international spectacle hosted in countries including Chile and the US, Mysteryland boasts a breathtaking history unlike any other festival on earth.
Now heading into its third year, Mysteryland USA has rapidly entrenched itself as a leading destination on the summer festival circuit. As the festival is a scion of The Netherlands’ original Mysteryland and has adopted Bethel Woods – the original home to Woodstock – as its home, this isn’t wholly unexpected. The USA’s edition has already revealed a powerful triumvirate of headliners for the festival’s three: Odesza, Skrillex and Bassnectar. That’s to say nothing of an undercard featuring a DJ set from Gesaffelstein, as well as performances from the likes of The Chainsmokers, Griz and Tchami.
Culled from the melting pot of the dance music realm, Mysteryland USA’s unrelenting roster of talent remains to be one of the many highlights of the annual affair. But beyond glittering rave attire and the intensity of everyday music festival life lies art, culture, and health & wellness that is just waiting to be unearthed. For the curious festivalgoer, these are the attractions that will undoubtedly complete the Mysteryland USA experience:
INCENDIA 50-FOOT FIRE DOME
Returning for its third consecutive year, it’s easy to see why Incendia became one of Mysteryland USA’s most popular installations. The 50-foot geodesic dome envelops and manipulates flames beneath a fire-proof ceiling, making for a mesmerizing and warming sight.
A staple of the Mysteryland experience, the Healing Garden remains a sacred space for dance music revelers to escape the hustle and bustle of large-scale festivals. Sarah Schroder, who has curated Mysteryland’s Healing Garden for over a decade in both the US and Netherlands, will lead countless sessions in yoga, healing, meditations and workshops. Can you say Namaste?
HO– USE OF YES
Mysteryland USA has enlisted Bushwick-based performance venue and nightclub House of Yes to choreograph daily parades, spectacles and shows for fans’ entertainment. For those who have yet to witness HOY up close and personal, know this: its team is obsessed with detail, and has a knack for the performing arts.
Back by popular demand, BangOn!NYC readies itself to make its third annual trip up to Bethel Woods. Revered among the Brooklyn community for their tasteful warehouse parties, Tim Monkiewicz and Thomas Murphy are skilled curators with an eye for detail.
The Fashion Bazaar, curated by Festy Besty, will make its Mysteryland debut in Bethel Woods this June. Featuring clothing from high-profile NYC pop-up shop The Vintage Twin, avant-garde designs from Minkpink and scintillating jewels from Body Bauble, the Fashion Bazaar is certain to suit every female festivalgoer’s needs.
Mysteryland’s signature speaker series will offer a spread of thought-provoking talks and panels, with this year’s theme being “How to.” Intended to help participants solve the core mysteries of their lives, a handful of speaker highlights include:
