Movement Detroit Festival Preview

 

Deemed “Techno Christmas” by the Detroit Metro Times, Movement Detroit will return downtown to Hart Plaza this May 26, 27, and 28. For three days, thousands of people from around the world will gather in the birthplace of Techno to celebrate the Motor City’s musical influence and legacy across generations, from its Motown days through today.

Movement 2018 will feature several stages including the Movement Stage, Red Bull Music Stage, Stargate Stage, Pyramid Stage and Resident Advisor Underground Stage. Additionally, for those who can’t be there, Red Bull Radio will be livestreaming from its stage all weeekend on redbullradio.com. This year’s lineup features 88 acts from a variety of electronic and techno genres including Claude Von Stroke, Loco Dice, the Martinez Brothers, Wu-Tang Clan, Diplo, Rezz, Dubfire, Hito, Carl Craig, Solardo, and Ellen Allien to name a few.

Claude VonStroke, DJ Hype b2b Hazard, Carl Craig, Luciano, Ectomorph (live), Maceo Plex, Too $hort, Lee Burridge, Justin Martin, Stacey Pullen, Fisher, Bevlove, Solardo, and Waajeed are among the highlights of day 1. Loco Dice b2b The Martinez Brothers, Laurent Garnier, John Digweed, Kevin Saunderson, Ø [Phase], Nina Kraviz, Modeselektor (DJ set), Eats Everything, KiNK – live, Marcel Dettmann, and Shigeto (live) will hold it down on day 2. Wu-Tang Clan 25th Anniversary, Charlotte de Witte, Dubfire, Joseph Capriati, Diplo, Mija, J.Phlip, DJ Stingray, DJ Premier, Phuture (live), Inner City (live), and Golf Clap will close things out properly on day 3.

Unique to Movement is its technology area, where festivalgoers can checkout music production/performance hardware, software, and accessories. According to the Movement website, “Several noted brands will be present, providing product demonstrations and hands-on interaction and will also be selling items and branded accessories such as shirts and more. Festivalgoers of all kinds are welcome, from the hard-core studio wizard to the uninitiated novice.” Attendees can download the Movement 2018 app on iOS and Android to customize their schedule, discover new artists, view the festival map and much more.

Movement 2018 will also feature a vendor area with artisans, record labels, and retailers selling everything from unique clothing pieces to classic records.
